UNRISD Research and Policy Briefs aim to improve the quality of development dialogue. They situate the Institute’s research within wider social development debates, synthesize its findings and draw out issues for consideration in decision-making processes. On Thursday 23 June , The United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) in collaboration with the publisher Palgrave Macmillan launched its series on Social Policy in a Development Context. The event took place at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London, UK. UNRISD research has demonstrated, for example, the transformative role that state-led social policy can play in development contexts, and has shown that social welfare is tightly bound to economic progress, as well as the role of social policy in strengthening citizenship, political participation and social cohesion.
